Welcome to the Fit Minute podcast. This is Nancy Wilson.

Thanks so much for joining me today.

I thought today I would talk to you about resting in the Lord and learning about rejecting that temptation to fret. So that's what we're going to talk about.

0:25.7

And Psalm 37 is where I went for this. And it's just, well, the whole thing is great, but it's way

0:32.3

too long for me to deal with in this little short podcast. In Psalm 37, verse 7, it says, rest in the Lord. That's what I'm talking

0:41.5

about. Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for him. Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way,

0:49.3

because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass. So this is just pretty much the theme of the whole front

0:58.1

part of this Psalm. So let's get a little bit of an overall context for the opening. Like I said,

1:03.7

we're not going to go through the whole thing. Verse one and two says, do not fret because of

1:09.4

evildoers, nor be envious of the workers of iniquity, for they shall

1:13.7

soon be cut down like the grass and wither as the green herb. This is just so important.

1:20.7

Christians should not fret about the people who harass or trouble them. Their end is sure. It is a final judgment, not a temporary one.

1:31.0

So remember, that's a reason why we should not fret. And fret means worry, the kind of worry that

1:38.4

can keep you awake at night, give you a stomach ache, don't do it. Versus three and four, tell us what we should do instead of fretting.

1:47.7

Trust in the Lord and do good. Dwell in the land and feed on his faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the Lord.

1:56.0

And he shall give you the desires of your heart. There's a lot in there. But notice, it comes right after,

2:04.0

don't be envious, don't fret, and now we're told what we should do instead of fretting.

2:10.3

You trust the Lord, you do good. Now, I think that's part of working out our trust in the Lord

2:16.5

is doing what he says. So stay at your post. Do good. Dwell where he has put you in the land. Feed on his faithfulness day in and day out. Be nourished and strengthened by his faithfulness. And of course one way we do that is to read the Psalms and sing the Psalms,

2:36.3

delight in Him. He is going to give you the desires of your heart, not your heart that is

2:42.3

fretting, but your heart that is trusting. Then verses 5 and 6, commit your way to the Lord,

2:49.4

trust also in Him, and he shall bring it to pass.
