So coming up as an interview I did for some reporting on a subject that's near and dear to my heart,

I've been through some crisis of my own while parenting.

And I stumbled upon Dr. Irwin Sandler, who has been researching and working with bereaved families for

30 years, and he's built a really effective program that coaches families in five building blocks

of resilient parenting. This was applicable in my life, and I wish I had found it a little

sooner. Those five are, and he'll tell you more, self-care, strengthening family bonds, active listening

to your kids, effective rules, and all of those culminate in supporting kids as they cope

with crisis. Though I happen to go through actual bereavement, I think the lessons that Sandler

teaches are applicable to parenting or persevering through a bunch of life's troubles.
