Summary

"Another measure of Emotional Wisdom is our consistent capacity to recognize, tolerate, and welcome goodness, joy, and ease in our lives. This requires practices that soothe and rewire our mental programming and nervous system, allowing us to rest more in our own skin, and heal." ~ Ruth King As always, if you'd like to get free access to my resource library, including guided meditations, book recommendations, app recommendations, and more, text your email address to: +1 (631) 337-8298 And i...

Hello and welcome back to practicing human, the podcast where every day we're

0:05.0

getting a little better at life. I'm your host, Cory Muscarra, and in today's

0:10.4

episode we're going to talk about receiving joy. More to come on that in a moment.

0:15.8

First, let's settle in together with the sound of the bells.

0:30.0

So in today's episode we're going to talk about receiving joy, and this was

0:43.5

inspired by a quote I read by Ruth King. She says, another measure of emotional

0:49.9

wisdom is our consistent capacity to recognize, tolerate, and welcome goodness,

0:56.5

joy, and ease in our lives. This requires practices that soothe and

rewire our mental programming and nervous system, allowing us to rest more in

1:08.2

our own skin and heal. So I think this is an important point that can sometimes

1:35.5

and all of that is important, and I think I tend to emphasize it just because

1:42.7

it's not always, there's not space made for those conversations in all domains,

1:49.1

and so a big part of my stance in moving toward a good life is being able to

1:56.4

not guard ourselves against the difficulty and invite that into the full

2:01.4

experience of being human. But what I will say I sometimes forget is that we

2:08.2

tend to have an equally difficult time as humans of really taking in and

2:14.4

appreciating the good in our lives, the joy, the pleasure, when it's there, we

2:20.9

tend to assume that well of course it's easy to feel goodness and joy, like

2:25.6

that's what I most want. But when it's there, do we really let it sink in? And
