busy is almost like a barometer for how important you are how successful you are.

If you're busy, you're important.

Wow, that guy's got something to do.

He's doing stuff, you know?

But the response is, hey, how are you doing?

Oh, I'm good, man.

We're in a really slow season of life. There's almost something demeaning about that.

It's like what don't you have something to do?

Which is a very utilitarian way of looking at the human soul.

It's like your your value is simply in the ability for you to produce

something for society. That's very consumeristic and it's exhaustive. You know someone

once said hurry is the violence to our soul it tears us down. I read

this book called ruthless elimination of hurry and one of the things that said is the reason we live in a culture

increasingly without faith is not because science has somehow disproved the

unprovable but because the white noise of secularism has removed the very stillness

in which we endure to be reborn.

He goes on to say that Corrid Tin Boom once said that if the devil can't make

you sin he'll make you busy. There's truth in that. Both sin and busyness have the exact

same effect. They cut you off from your connection to God

to other people and even to your own soul.
