My guest today is filmmaker Kimberly Reed.

Her new documentary, Dark Money, showed this summer at AFI Docks right here in Washington,

D.C.

The movie takes a look at how Superpacks and shadowy 501c3s and other political campaigns took

root in Montana.

Now for many people, Citizens United and Campaign Finance rules are usually rallying

cries on the left.

But by telling a story in Montana, which is more of a red state than most, Kim's film

chronicles what happens when the dark money issue impacts Republican primaries.

And that's what makes dark money even that much more compelling to watch.

You know it.

It's where you're familiar with.

But why this topic, like who put it on your radar to say, you know what, this is something

that deserves a documentary.

You know, I think it was just being a citizen and hearing about the Citizens United decision

and just kind of being dumbfounded that we had gotten to that point in Supreme Court
