This is the Tom Harbin program.

We have a homeless crisis here in Portland, Oregon.

There's parts of this town that you just don't go in because there's people camping on the streets

and pooping in the streets and and mugging people in the streets.

And in the neighborhood where we live, we've had multiple break-ins, people being attacked.

My own wife, Louise, was attacked twice by homeless people, chased down the streets,

screaming at her, throwing one guy through a bottle at her, nearly hit her.

We had somebody try to break into our house.

And then the police come through and they sweep out the homeless camp and suddenly the crime

goes away and then a few weeks goes by and boom, they're back.

And I'm saying this not by way of trying to vilify homeless people because I realize that

virtually all of these homeless people are either

people suffering from mental illness and there should be

treatment for that, there should be facilities for that, mental illness or drug addiction.

And we don't have those. I mean, you know, Reagan shut down the mental hospitals and Republicans

...
