March 2021 marks Ghosts and Verbs 5th anniversary.

I didn't think I'd make it past Nick and his Ouija board, but holy shit, here we are

58 Ghost Stories 9 out of the swells, books, and 2 books in.

I've been sifting through some new interviews lately and they just feel like more of the

same, so I want to hold off until I find a real gem rather than put out something forced

and in all honesty, rather shitty.

I've been toying with an idea for a while and I thought now might be a good time to try

it out.

I've lost hours scrolling through Project Gutenberg's online database of public domain ebooks,

and I recently stumbled across a collection of short stories published in 1921 called

Famous Modern Ghost Stories and one story in particular stood out.

After I read it I looked up the author Mary E. Wilkins Freeman and get this, she was born

in Massachusetts on October 31st, Halloween in 1852.

Britannica.com described her as an American writer known for her stories and novels of

frustrated lives in New England villages.

In Wikipedia said she became a local celebrity for her writing, despite having occasionally

published satirical fiction representations of her neighbors.

So basically I found my astral twin.

All of this to say, I want to read her short story to you, and there's more where that

came from.

We're all looking for distraction right now, and while we wait for the ghosts in the

Burbs Gods to deliver a fun interview, I'm going to share some very old ghost stories
