What makes someone a great communicator—and can anyone learn this skill? In this insightful episode, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Charles Duhigg joins the conversation to discuss his latest book, *Supercommunicators*, where he breaks down the science of effective communication. Charles challenges the idea that great communicators are simply born that way, revealing instead that communication is a learnable skill rooted in understanding human connection. Drawing from his research and experiences writing for The New Yorker, The New York Times, the discussion explores the power of storytelling, the psychology behind meaningful conversations, and the habits that set exceptional communicators apart. Before we get into today's episode, I want to take a moment to set the context for why I'm re-airing this conversation.

0:06.2

This episode originally aired as part of the Clear Intention series last year, and it's one I found

0:11.7

myself thinking about and returning to again and again, because the truth is, communication is

0:16.8

something we all do every day, but it's not something that most of us were ever taught how to do well.

0:23.3

So in this conversation, I'm joined by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and author Charles Duhigg,

0:29.3

who challenges the idea that great communicators are simply born that way. Instead, he shows us that

0:35.2

communication is a learnable skill one rooted in attention understanding

0:39.6

and human connection what makes this episode especially worth revisiting is how relevant it feels

0:44.4

right now many of us are navigating harder conversations than we used to at home at work and

0:50.7

honestly within ourselves and this discussion isn't about speaking more perfectly or

0:55.3

having the right words. It's about learning how to truly listen, recognize what kind of

conversation we're in, and respond with intention rather than habit. So if you've heard this

1:07.3

episode before, I invite you to listen again through a new lens. Notice what stands out now and what feels newly applicable to your life.

1:15.2

And if this is your first time hearing it, you're in for a thoughtful, grounding conversation

1:19.1

that offers practical tools you can start using today.

1:23.1

So let's revisit this powerful conversation with my guest, Charles Duhigg.

1:27.9

But if you're not having the same kind of conversation at the same moment, you can't really hear each other and you definitely can't connect.

The difference between them and everyone else is not that they're like born with some special skill or that they have the gift of gab or they're extrovert.

1:39.3

The difference is that what your sister is doing with you and what you're doing with your sister is a set of

skills. Not only is anyone capable of it, we all are super communicators at certain times of our life, right?

1:52.2

Do you want to be helped, hugged, or heard? Which is, of course, the practical, the emotional,

and the social. And it, it helps. Kids know what they want. I might disagree with
