So today we're going to talk to a political newcomer.

Joining me today is Representative elect Eric Sorenson.

He's a newly elected member of Congress from Illinois 17th District.

It is a district that borders the state of Iowa, quad cities, like into it sort of a ex-Surban

rural, however you want to describe it. Traditional Democrat was kind of a little Trumpy sometimes.

So it's a fascinating district about Mr. Sorenson.

He's the first openly gay member of Congress elected from Illinois and he's the first meteorologist

to be elected in 50 years.

And as I said, he'll be in the seat formally held by five term incumbent former D. Triple

seat chair.

And a former TV journalist herself, Sherry Bustos.

So let me just start with the basics.

Why do you decide to dip into politics?

What brought you in?

I think Chuck, for me it was looking introspectively at the fact of, you know, for 20 years I spent

my career right here in this one congressional district.

I worked at NBC and rockford, Illinois for more than a decade and then I moved to the next

TV market over along the Quad Cities and worked here for about eight years.

And I realized that it wasn't really so much about the weather at all.
