On the evening of February 9th, 1997, Janet Cha, a high school freshman, left her boyfriend's house

in Portland, Oregon. She walked half a block to the bus stop, like she had many times before.

This time was different though. She noticed a man following her, so she crossed the street.

But the man crossed as well. Then he caught up with her and grabbed and dragged her into an abandoned garage.
