David and Melinda Harmon lived in a duplex in Olathe, Kansas in 1982.

He was 25 and she was 24.

David worked as a cashier at a local bank.

His co-workers described him as easygoing.

His friends said he was active in church.

Gail Berkstren lived with her husband on the other side of the Harmon's duplex.

The two families shared a wall.

On February 27th, Gail heard loud noises coming from the Harmon's home around 2.30 a.m.

I mean this was the kind of a loud noise that just wakes you from a deep sleep.

You sit up in the bed, just hold upright and you just look at each other and say, what was that?

I told my husband I said I'm going to call the police and he said, well what are you going to tell him

that you heard thumping in our neighbors duplex and I said, oh you're right.
