How much loyalty is there in Formula One? Drivers flip between teams in search of the best car,

and the same can be said of engineers. Everyone wants to win, and they will stop at virtually

nothing in order to achieve their aim. Just occasionally you get a gem. Someone who wants to win

as much as anyone else, but who demonstrates a fierce loyalty to his band of brothers in one team.

And such a man is my guest this week. Welcome to Beyond the Grids with me Tom Clarkson.

Alan Perman has worked in the same team for more than 30 years. He joined what was Beneton

in the late 80s when they were based at Whitney in the UK. And he's enjoyed an uninterrupted run

with them ever since. As they moved to Enstone, morphed into Renault, then into Lotus and finally

back to Renault. He's worked with great drivers like Nelson Pique, Michael Schumacher,

and Fernando Alonzo, and a charismatic team boss in Flavio Bria Tori.

He's experienced the highest of highs, winning world titles, and the lowest of lows,

such as Crashgate, the controversial 2008 Singapore Grand Prix, yet he's remained loyal throughout.
