Summary

What happens when an adventure ride is going well and feeling great, until it’s not? When a mishap, medical issue or an off changes everything and you think you might need help? Have you ever wondered what constitutes an emergency, and when it’s okay to push the button on your satellite communicator? Mosko Moto’s Pete Day and Ashley Myhre found themselves in that situation on a weekend trip in the Oregon desert a few years ago. When broken bones and an attempt to get themselves out of their remote location didn’t work out, they were left with a decision to make. And to help us better understand when to send out an SOS signal, we spoke with Emily Thompson at GEOS, the people on the other end who answer your call for help and co-ordinate remote rescues around the world. We were in a situation where, you know, the bike was essentially non-serviceable, especially not by Ash in her kind of injured state. And then I had my bike, which is not really an ideal bike for a passenger to begin with, also ear on it.

And then we're in this incredibly difficult terrain where it's hard enough to ride single, let alone two up.

There were four foot wide sand washouts that were about three feet deep. It was not rideable.

And next thing I know I'm just sort of bopping between boulder hitting my front tire from one to the next,

barely keeping it together.

And I remember hearing the bone snap. Snap.

1:16.0

It was an ugly sound.

1:18.0

It was really ugly. When you're off the beaten track with your motorcycle and everything's going just fine

that just one small mishap can completely change the course of your day, the trip, or the
