And you're like, oh, shit, that's me.

I'm going to come up with the answer.

And you realize, like, it doesn't matter that you're not an engineer.

You have to design a hologram.

Like, you have to design a working holograph.

Today's episode takes us behind the scenes of director Lisa Joy's new sci-fi mystery, Reminiscence.

The film tells the story of Nick, a futuristic private investigator who helps his clients access lost memories.

When an alluring new client named May disappears, Nick becomes obsessed with finding her and uncovers a violent conspiracy.

Reminiscence is Ms. Joy's feature directorial debut.

She has also directed episodes of the television series, Westworld.

Following a recent screening of the film at the DGA Theater in Los Angeles, Ms. Joy spoke with fellow director J.J. Abrams about filming reminiscence.

Let's just start with how you even got into making movies, telling stories and film.

I think it's your fault.

Don't blame me. Don't please.

It's your fault. We did Westworld together, and then I wanted to direct something then.

You were writing before that.

Yeah.

So why don't we talk about how that started?

I was training to be a lawyer.
