WWE Hall of Famer, the Iron Sheik, has passed away at the age of 81.

Hussein Cosro Ali Vaziri was born in Dagman Iran on March the 15th 1942. Growing up in a working-class

family, Hussein made a name for himself as an amateur wrestler whilst working as a bodyguard.

Cosro competed for a spot on Iran's Greco-Roman wrestling team

for the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City.

From there, he moved to the United States and was an assistant coach

for the US Olympic record Roman wrestling team during the 70s. Cosro himself was an

amateur wrestling champion before he transitioned to professional wrestling in 1972,

trained under Billy Robinson and Vern Garnier in the AWA.

Originally a baby face, one promoter suggested a heel persona inspired by the original

sheik.
