Vince Kelly, 1950 is when he started calling Brooklyn Dodgers games.

It is, that is an incredible run in an industry where we move around all the time,

all the time for him to be, just to be a part of something where he is as iconic as any player

that has ever put on a Dodgers uniform. Now, he called more than just Dodgers games, but that,

I think you might agree with this, that that's what you think of first. Like, when I think of

Vince Kelly, you passed away yesterday at the age of 94, I think of the Dodgers first and foremost,

and somebody that was able to paint a picture that very, very few could do the way that he did it.

And not just his ability to paint the picture, Nick, but I think what's most impressive about

Vince Kelly, and this isn't a knock on guys today, because again, nobody's Vince Kelly,

nobody will ever match up to the standard that he set, but the fact that he knew exactly when

to let things breathe. And you know, you bring up some of the calls that aren't necessarily Dodger calls.

I mean, the Kirk Gibson home run, obviously, that we came back with is, I think probably the

quintessential Vince Kelly Dodger call, although there's so many others, you know, three perfect

games, I think he called over the years. The ones for me that reinforced his ability to just

get out of the way and let the scene speak for itself are people forget he called Montana to

Dwight Clark, the catch in San Francisco. And people, people don't forget it, I don't think,

because it's a baseball play, but Mookie Wilson and the Bill Buckner ground ball.

Both of those are great examples of Vince Kelly making the call and then getting out of the way.

And in those instances, he's aided by the pictures on television, but he was even able to do that

on radio. He would just get out of the way and let the thing breathe and let the scene speak for
