All right, everybody. This is The Other People Show. I'm Brad Listy in Los Angeles.

Today, a special episode remembering the life and work of Tom Hanson, who died this week of esophageal cancer.

Tom was born in 1961 in Seattle, Washington, and was raised by adoptive parents.

He struggled with addiction in his earlier adulthood and wrote about it beautifully in a memoir entitled American Junkie,

which was published in 2010 on emergency press and was later reissued by Soft Skull in 2017.

Tom was a guest on this program in episode 158.

It first aired on March 20th, 2013.

At the time, I believe he was celebrating the publication

of his retro noir thriller entitled This Is What We Do.

And we had a great conversation, which I am going to re-air today in tribute to Tom and his work and as a way of introducing his work to some new readers.

So my condolences to everybody who knew and loved, Tom, and I'm happy to be able to share
