I'm Sue McGregor and in Warsaw Poland I've brought together

a group of activists involved in a trade union movement that stood up to the might of the Soviet Union

in the 1980s. They'll be reflecting on what they achieved

and how their legacy is seen today in remembering solidarity. Poland isn't alone in appearing to be a

Poland isn't alone in appearing to be a divided country, wandering close to Warsaw's old city area last night,

I came across a political demonstration and a counter demonstration,

ringed and divided by uniform police.

This happens regularly once a month as supporters of the governing truth and justice party

mark the air disaster of April 10, 2010, near Smolensk in West Russia,

when President Lech Kaczynski was killed

and half of Poland's leadership was wiped out.

This provides the political backdrop for our reunion today.
