Hey, welcome back everybody. Welcome to Black on the Air. This is kind of a special pod

dropper right now. We weren't going to have one this week, but I thought I would replay

an episode from a few years ago with the legend Karl Reiner who passed away the other day.

It was such a fun conversation and for those of you who don't know, Karl Reiner is one

of my showbiz idols just even when I was a kid. I just really just loved his work and admired

him and had no idea until a little later just all the things that he did and really kind

of fashioned my career, you know, kind of in the vein of that multi-hyphenate type of

thing that Karl Reiner did. But man, Karl Reiner to me was such a, he's in a class by

himself, you know, and it made me so sad of hearing of his passing. It just brought back

a rush of memories that I just wanted to share with you guys and replay this episode

because it was such a fun conversation. I was invited to Karl's house to do the pod

and just talked about his whole career and everything and he couldn't have been nicer.

But the first time I met Karl, it wasn't the first time I met Karl Reiner, I first met him.

I mean, I say met him and kind of approached him. I could see you didn't know who I was.

I was a comedian at the time and I went to, it was like the comedy awards, early version

of that. I don't know if they still have this type of thing. I forgot who sponsored it.

It was this black tie thing and I think I had started writing for TV at that point. I can't

remember. But I definitely was doing stand-up mainly and I think I went with my manager.

She had gotten some tickets or something. You know, I'm sitting in the back, you know,

that type of thing. It wasn't a big deal. It wasn't like I was getting an award or anything.

But they were, at this particular words, they were honoring, I think Mel Brooks. I think it was

in. So that Mel Brooks' table was Karl Reiner. And I think Steve Martin was there.
