Summary

Get ready for a great episode beacuse this week we are joined by Touché Amoré vocalist and host of "The First Ever Podcast," Jeremy Bolm! We talk to Jeremy about growing up in Los Angeles and what it was like to go to the same high school where they filmed a little show called "The Wonder Years." We also discuss Jonah and Jeremy playing shows together in their respective bands, Vanessa's obsession with re-engineered Dodo Birds and what it was like being a kid and not feeling allegiance to any type of musical scene. Speaking of music, we get deep into Jeremy's love of grunge legends Nirvana, personal interactions with the band members in real life and Touché Amoré's stellar cover of what might be the most underrated song on Nevermind, "Lounge Act." Finally we play a round of YESTOLGIA OR NOSTALGIA where we discuss the return of the indie rock act The Format, debate the neccessity of healthy versions of our favorite candy bars and should there be a "Little House on the Prarie" reboot based on the books? You'll have to listen to find out! Also check out Touché Amoré live next year on their ten year anniversary tour for "Stage Four" which sees them traveling everywhere from Austin to Amsterdam!

Hi, I'm Vanessa Bayer and this is my brother Jonah.

0:06.4

We're two siblings who love to talk about our childhood and nostalgia and how it shaped us into the people we are today.

0:11.3

Who are definitely not lamenting today's guest.

0:14.4

Welcome to How Did We Get Weird.

0:54.5

Yeah. Well, Jonah, I'm really not lamenting today's guest because he just took us through a whole tech tutorial to get us to be able to record this podcast. Now, in fairness, Vanessa, it was a little more on your end than us both having kind of a tech disruption. But I'm still not lamenting him because of that. Right. Yeah, we're not lamenting. His band has an album called lament, which is why. I don't know if you might not know that. Hey, Jonah, tusha.

0:55.4

I get it.

0:56.8

Okay.

0:59.4

So, Vanessa, what do you want to talk about?

1:01.5

Really quickly before we introduce him.

1:02.2

Sure. I want to say I was watching CNN yesterday, and I saw a news story that absolutely blew my mind,

1:13.4

which was that there's this company that's going into like, it's finding like extinct animals and kind of like bringing them back to life

1:18.5

with like cloning and stuff like that. And they, and they did it with a couple wolves.

1:24.7

Like I want to say, Bayo wolves. Is that a real thing? I think I heard about this. Yeah. And then they did it with these like really, like these really kind of like long-haired furry mice because they're like the first mammals or something like that. Anyway, casually the guy who was being interviewed about it was like, yeah, and we're going to do it with some other animals, including like something and dodo birds. And the newscaster was like, you're going to bring back dodo birds?

1:49.0

And he was like, oh, yeah, yeah, we're going to try and bring back doto birds. Jonah, when I tell you

1:54.7

that about once a year, I go online and I look up, are there any dodo birds?

2:01.2

Can we find dodo birds anywhere?

2:03.5

Where any evidence of dodo birds?

2:06.4

Because I think that when we were little, we had a book that was like about extinct

2:11.0

animals and it talked about the dodo bird.

2:13.4

And because of that, I've really fixated my whole life on like, wow, what I love to see a dodo bird.

2:20.4

Because they're like so famously extinct, but I'm like, I got to be able to find one somewhere.

2:25.9

So anyways, I'm over the moon about the post-stability that dodo birds are coming back.
