Summary

We could not be more thrilled this week to be joined by drummer Valerie Franco aka Didi Crockett from Spinal Tap who can be seen in the new film SPINAL TAP II: THE END CONTINUES! We talk to Valerie about her early days of listening to Rush, what it was like asking her very kind neighbors if it was ok to practice her drums after school and what it was like playing with a ridiculously large drum kit as a member of Spinal Tap. We also get into Valerie's youth and her time visiting the Warped Tour, covering pop-punk artists like Green Day and being inspired by Travis Barker's playing. Plus we discuss the very controversial rule about never wearing a band's T-shirt to their own show. Is this a real rule of just one that Jonah thought was universal???? Finally, in an exciting round of CHANGE DOT DORK we debate the merits of a Rush Sirius station, if Keanu Reeves should be in an upcoming Star Wars movie and should the band Scum Dumpster play the next Warped Tour? You'll have to listen to this amazing episode to find out!!!

Who are just beating the drum to talk to today's guest.

Welcome to How Did We Get Weird. Jonah, you just gave me a crazy update before the podcast, which is that recently on the podcast

0:36.2

you had said that you don't care about

0:37.5

the colors of things, meaning like apparel, footwear, et cetera. You just go for the one on sale.

0:42.8

But it sounds like you're maybe turning course on that.

0:46.4

Yeah, I want to backtrack a little. I did say that recently, that especially when it comes

0:50.9

to clothes, I want to just buy whatever's the cheapest.

0:54.5

When it comes to quality clothes, but if they have it in like a plaid or some kind of,

0:59.4

some kind of style that's not selling, I'm usually going to go for that because I'm like,

1:03.3

it's the same stuff.

1:05.0

But I did go clothes shopping with Vicky recently.

1:07.8

We went to a gap outlet, and I kind of had to walk it back a little. Right. Like, you know, there were some pants. I was like, oh, these fit nice, but they're like olive green and I was like, I feel like I should just get them out of principle because I'm saying now publicly I don't care about what color my clothes are, but I was like, I don't feel comfortable in these pants and also like who am I proving this too. Right, right. So it's good.

1:30.8

Do you feel like now that you've said it on the podcast, you've kind of reversed course on the podcast, you now have the freedom to kind of maybe pay for a more premium price for more premium color. Yeah, well, Vicky was sort of like, I don't think you're, I don't think that's true.

2:04.8

I think you're actually really picky about stuff. And I was like, well, I'm also cheap. So it's like those two things can kind of be at odd. So I think it's situational. Yeah. But I think I wouldn't say across the board that it totally doesn't matter what color or anything as I'll always go on sale there could be situations I just have to take it situation by situation basically okay I think that's really fair and I'll keep everyone posted on how this develops okay I think

2:09.4

keep us informed keep us in the loop on that and then should we get to yeah why don't you introduce today's

2:13.8

guest we're so excited about today's guest she is an incredible drummer who has recorded and performed with artists, including

2:20.8

Halsey, Kylie Minogue, and Haley Kioch, and you can now see her in her role as D.D.

2:25.8

Crockett, the new drummer in the movie Spinal Tap 2.

2:28.8

The end continues.

2:30.2
