Summary

It’s shocking that Routine, a sci-fi horror game announced all the way back in 2012, is finally here. It’s a game that died along the way, only to be resurrected in a surprise twist of fate. It’s a game that basically bankrupted the people who were making it. They were almost homeless because of it. And yet, Routine is here. It’s a video game you can play right now. Which is why it was so exciting that Patrick had a chance to chat with two of its developers about their journey.

Anyone who has followed my work for, well, I guess this period would extend out past 10 years.

0:26.4

Well, you know, I like horror games.

0:28.0

And you know I have been looking forward to both earnestly and ironically, a sci-fi horror game called Routine.

0:36.5

Set on the Moon announced more than 10 years ago.

0:40.4

It was something I covered when I worked over at Giant Bomb.

0:43.4

I did an interview and a podcast.

0:46.7

I guess it was an interview that I just flipped around to be a podcast.

0:49.1

Either way, I wrote about routine there.

0:51.1

I did a follow-up article at Giant Bomb tracking routine and a couple of other,

0:56.5

I think Soma and a couple other long in development horror games and got developers to give me

1:01.1

brief updates, basically like Science of Life sort of thing. I don't think I wrote about

1:06.7

routine at Kataku. I did write about routine at Waypoint. I think it was one of those. I was doing a

1:15.0

series trying to track down sort of development hell or, you know, promising indie games that were

1:23.3

announced and like, what about to them? Are they still coming along did they disappear is still

1:27.7

being made sort of thing and so i i wrote about routine then i don't think i got an update

1:32.5

and i genuinely had a reminder on my phone uh to check on the routine subreddit once a year

1:39.1

just to see what the chatter was like and then every once in a while i would send a

1:43.6

uh twitter dm to lunar software the developers a routine just being like the chatter was like. And then every once in a while, I would send a Twitter DM to Lunar Software,

1:46.6

the developers, a routine just being like, what's up? And they would often respond with hello or a

1:51.9

heart. And it would just kind of be left there. So it is truly surreal now to have routine

1:58.8

out, a game I have complicated feelings about. I, the, you know,

2:05.7

we'll probably get into this more on remap radio, but the, the, you know, you're running from
