23 teenagers who died within minutes of each other awakened to a world they don't

recognize, a world where the machines want to kill them. This is remade. In a post-apocalyptic

future filled with robots, space elevators, and unchecked wilderness, these teenagers are

humanity's only hope. Holden Black and his new compatriots must do whatever it takes

to survive and bring humanity back from the brink. But the caretakers, super advanced AI, would

prefer to snuff it out for good. As Holden and the other teens stave off attacks an attempt to

start life anew.

Alliances are made, romances spark, and they quickly learn that not everything on earth is as it seems.

Someone shouted Holden's name, a girl's voice calling to him,

or had he been dreaming? Either way way he didn't like getting yelled at.

He wanted to ask her to calm down. He wanted to ask what was wrong. But when he tried to talk,

his tongue stuck to the roof of his mouth like cotton. He opened his eyes, but the bright light overhead burned spots into his vision.

He closed them again, and he saw a little exploding stars.

Sorry, he mumbled, but his words didn't sound right in his own ears. His thick tongue got in the way.
