In the Gospel of Mark, chapter 8, Jesus says, unless you deny your innermost self and

take up the cross, you cannot be my disciple.

Detachment is the goal of self-denial.

You should long to disconnect from a possessive attitude, instead towards one of surrender,

turning from the illusion of pleasure from the world to the pure joy found in the presence

of God.

But where do you normally turn for satisfaction and pleasure?

I pray this meditation from Titus, chapter 2, will help you discover that the genuine

delight and joy that you seek is found only in the enduring guidance of the Holy Spirit.

So as you begin this meditation, allow your eyes to close and your thoughts to slow.

Any restless breathing to become content, and your pulse becoming relaxed, as you begin

to encounter God at loving rest within you, and now center on this present moment of satisfaction

with the Holy Father, the Holy Son, and the Holy Spirit.
