many people around the world believe that we have lived before, that we

experience a succession of lives so that when we die in one body, we're reborn in another.

This belief, known as reincarnation, is found in multiple world religions, including major ones

like Hinduism and Buddhism. It's also believed by various tribal people around the world,

and even by some individuals in the Christian West. But in the 20th century,

parapsychologists started studying reports of reincarnation from a scientific

rather than a religious perspective. One of the most famous researchers was psychiatrist

Ian Stevenson. So what have parapsychologists found about cases of the reincarnation

type? Is there any evidence that something paranormal might be going on in these cases?

And what could possibly explain their findings?

How will we proceed in our discussion?

Once again, we're going to have a two-part look at the subject. Today, we'll be looking at

modern reincarnation research in general. We'll be talking about the researchers themselves,

about particular well-known cases, and about the general findings that reincarnation researchers

have uncovered such as statistics about reincarnation cases and the different types of reincarnation

cases that occur in different cultures. Then next week, we'll go into analysis mode and look at

the possible ways in which we could explain these cases. We'll look at explanations that are both

natural and paranormal. We'll look at proposed explanations that do and do not involve actual

reincarnation and we'll look at these from the twin perspectives of faith and reason.
