I'm Michael Baranowski, a political scientist at Northern Kentucky University.

My guest today is Ohio State Supreme Court Justice Michael Donnelly. He took office in January

2019, and prior to joining the court, Justice Donnelly served as a judge on the Cuyahoga County

Court of Common Pleas, General Division, for 14 years from 2005 until 2018.

Prior to that, Justice Donnelly was an assistant Kyaga County prosecutor from 1992 until 1997.

He also practiced civil litigation for seven years, representing plaintiffs and injured workers

in his best counsel's litigation, personal injuryiffs and injured workers in his festivals litigation, personal

injury lawsuits, and workers' compensation claims. And today, Justice Donnelly and I will be

talking about an issue that's very important to him, and I think that should be very important

to everyone, and that is transparency and reform in the criminal justice process.

So, as I said, today we're going to be talking about the criminal justice process, transparency, really,

and it specifically as this relates to plea bargains and sentencing.

But I thought before we did that, maybe it would be helpful for listeners to get a sense of

what it is exactly that justice on the Ohio Supreme Court does.
