listening. This is Our Body Politics. I'm Karen Grigthybe, founding member of NPR's

Coat Switch team sitting in for Farahidea. It can be easy to forget, but there's more to politics

than the 2024 presidential race. This November, city and state elections are taking center stage, and so is redistricting.

All around the country, we're seeing drawn out conflicts over gerrymandering, but maybe the longest

running saga comes out of Alabama. Republican state officials there have repeatedly

resisted court orders to increase representation for black voters.

The latest chapter of this year's long fight involved a court-appointed special master

who took over the job of drawing congressional maps for the state.

Joining me now is Marina Jenkins, executive director of the National Democratic Redistricting Committee.
