Summary

The story of Uriah’s wife does not exactly scream Christmas cheer. Yet, as we reflect on the Mothers of Jesus, we cannot overlook that just as Jesus was born in Bethlehem, Matthew traces his lineage back to the town of David. Though sentimentality is absent from Bathsheba’s story, Michael Horton, Justin Holcomb, Walter Strickland, and Bob Hiller reveal the incredible hope that challenges our cynicism about how God works through His people—and even their sin—to fulfill His purposes.

We have to be satisfied by something other than that which we're lusting for.

1:08.5

And we see in Psalm 51, David is finally satisfied by

1:13.2

his Lord. I love that because sin's addictive. The more you sin, the more you want it, because the payoff

1:18.5

has a payoff unless you get convicted and confronted by the law. So I love your point, Walter.

1:24.9

And even thinking about it in this way, you know, you use language of addiction.

1:28.0

And I think there's something to that.

1:29.6

It's not the same as a chemical addiction, but there is the fact that when you sin, there might

1:34.4

be momentary satisfaction.

1:36.6

But what happens is that the next time you sin, it has to be bigger and grander to get

1:42.1

that same satisfaction.
