Today I'm joined in studio by former vice presidential candidate for the Green Party,

an organizer and spokesperson for the Black

Alliance for Peace, Ajamu Baraka, truly an amazing man who has just gotten back from taking

part in a peace delegation to Venezuela.

I'll talk with him about whether third parties still matter, about why NATO is so dangerous and about the persecution of

Chelsea Manning, among other things. But first, let's hit on some of the news of the week.

You may have seen the viral story by the New York Times about a homeless eight-year-old

refugee who is a chess champion in New York. The story says it'll make you smile. What a feel great

story that is. The homeless kid is good at chess. Hurrah. But as fairness and accuracy in reporting

correctly points out, neither the New York Times nor the many other outlets that also picked up the story

pondered how it was possible for a child in one of the richest cities in the world to be

homeless and what that said about an economic and political system that allows this in the

first place. Of course, that's really what you should take out of this article, what you should walk away with.

But the New York Times writers are, they're living in their own little elite bubble,

and they didn't even realize that what they were reporting was troublesome.

It's horrifying, horrifying that a single child, a child in this country, should be homeless.

Especially when Utah has found it costs less to give each chronically homeless person a free apartment than it does to leave them on the streets because of emergency services and everything else.

So just give them apartment.
