Today, I tear apart a Politico article,

basically calling for the end of exit polling as we know it during our elections.

What could go wrong there?

But before that, I passed it off to Naomi Caravani to talk to Glenn E. Martin, an activist for ending the prison industrial system.

He founded the Organization, Just Leadership USA, which is dedicated to cutting the incarcerated population heavily by 2030.

He also helped lead the effort to close Rikers Island, one of the most notoriously terrible prisons in our country.

He's helped expand the opportunities for higher education in prisons across America and has fought for the formerly incarcerated's right to vote.

So I wanted to start by asking you, you want to cut the population of American prisons in half by 2030.

Would you describe your plan as ambitious and overly optimistic or completely insane?

I'd say completely insane, but very deliberately.

If you look at our criminal justice system, the fact that America has 5% of the world's population, but 25% of the world's prison population, I think the solution

to that problem needs to be as insane as the problem itself. And so we've spent 45 years

essentially locking up our citizens at a rate incomparable to anywhere else in the world,
