All right, welcome into breaking balls. And the big picture, not a lot has changed with the Red Sox here over the last several days. When some lose some, mostly lose. You get the drill. But I did want to touch on something today that relates to the young players in this organization, particularly on the wake of a story by Tim Healey or in the wake of a story by Tim Healey in the Boston Globe that the Red Sox are not considering moving on from Craig Breslow, at least at this time.

0:27.5

Now, read into that how you would. It doesn't mean they can't change their mind at the end of the year and elect to make a move.

0:34.1

And I think that what will really matter with regard to Breslo and his future with

0:38.6

the Red Sox is the development of the offensive players in the organization, specifically

0:44.7

the prospects who were supposed to be the foundation of this year's Red Sox team. They've gone

0:50.7

backwards. The majority of these guys have gone backwards, which brings me to

0:54.8

Marcel O' Meyer, who's also a bit of a focal point today because of speculation that the Red Sox

1:00.0

were on the verge of dealing him to the Arizona Diamondbacks, a trade that didn't happen in the

1:05.2

offseason and didn't happen over the weekend. Meyer, as it was, homered last night against the raise in the Red Sox

1:12.4

loss at Tampa Bay, but don't delude yourself.

1:15.4

Marcelo Meyer has been one of the worst offensive regulars in baseball in 2026.

1:22.3

I think there are like 197 qualifying players or players with 180 plate appearances or more,

1:29.6

Marcel O'Meier ranks 188th in OPS.

1:32.6

So he's literally been one of the worst 10 offensive players in the game during the

1:38.8

26th season.

1:40.0

But all this gets to the development of the Red Sox young offensive players and in particular, the ones that they had signed to big contracts or to notable contracts is what I should say, to become a centerpiece players for them as time has gone on.

1:59.3

And so we're going to call these the ABCs of how the Red Sox

2:03.1

have effed up their player development operation. But a lot of this goes back to a comment

2:08.8

that Kenny Rosenthal made in the early part of the season during the game against the St. Louis

2:13.7

Cardinals, they were actually talking about the contracts that throughout baseball

2:19.2

have been given out to many of the young players in the sport with the idea that organizations

2:25.5

are now betting on youth to develop instead of betting on veteran players to match their performance
