Summary

Some experiences don’t fade with time — they just get sharper.

He was five years old, lying awake in base housing near Eglin Air Force Base while a Florida thunderstorm lit the walls in quick flashes. The kind of night where shadows play tricks… until one shadow doesn’t move with the rest.

At first, it’s just a shape at the foot of his bed. Too dark. Too still. Like it’s absorbing the light instead of reflecting it. And then it rises.
