That's the assessment of the president of the International Committee of the Red Cross talking about the situation in Gaza right now.

Mirjana Spolierich told the BBC that Palestinians have been stripped of human dignity

and that international humanitarian law is being hollowed out.

Her comments follow the killing this week of dozens of Palestinians who were trying to reach

food distribution centres set up by a controversial new US and Israeli-backed organisation

which has taken over the role of handing out

aiding Gaza from experienced agencies like the Red Cross. The group called the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation

has suspended its operations now for a day, but there have been more deaths in Gaza, with 12

Palestinians killed after an Israeli strike hit a school, housing, displaced

people. We'll have more on that in a moment, but first let's hear more from the head of the ICRC.
