So today, the topic is social settings in sobriety. Parties, gatherings, weddings, etc. Life of being a party

guest does not end when you stop drinking.

I wanted to go over some helpful tips on how to navigate social settings

when you're in recovery.

Some of this is old hat for people that have got

a bunch of sobriety under their belts.

Some of you are newly sober or still sober curious,

so maybe you'll get something out of this.

First and foremost, I know that when I was invited to an event in my drinking days I immediately went straight to the thought of getting drunk.

That's what the party was all about for me and I'm sure that you can relate to this. But in sobriety, especially early sobriety,

this is a big shift for your thought patterns and it is absolutely possible to change the way you think about this.

It's just going to take practice.

First and foremost, when you go to an event,

think about the focus of the party. Usually we're celebrating

someone or something, so keep that in the front of your mind. Birthday party,

connect with the guest of honor.

Charity event, spend some time celebrating the cause and sharing your connection to it

with other people there.
