0:18.0

Hi, everybody. Hi.

0:20.8

We have some hot takes. They were going to talk about recovery beers, gravel racing, and more spicy takes for our local pro to talk about.

0:28.8

All right. Let's get into it. Chad beer is good for recovery hot take. What do you got?

0:35.2

Okay. So this decidedly was not a hot take. This is going to be a little bit of dive just just a shallow dive just because there's a fair amount of information to share here.

0:44.4

My title most of my deep dive shallow dives, whatever with with a little personal title. And this one got indefensive beer.

0:51.4

Otherwise neglected research regarding its other benefits. So this would be the title of the paper should I ever pursue a master's or a doctor or something.

1:00.5

But I do want to kick off with an important disclaimer because I do not want my flippantone misinterpreted. So it's acknowledged that alcohol is a psychoactive drug.

1:10.1

It is a depressive. It does bear potential for dependence and abuse. So we're not talking about over consumption.

1:15.7

One to two drinks, reasonable quantities, reasonable ABVs or alcohol contents, always in moderation. Okay. This is assumed.

1:24.7

And I'm not making light of alcohol abuse or alcohol addiction. I'm simply trying to answer the question. Can beer promote enhance facilitate whatever endurance exercise recovery. Okay. So with that in mind.

1:37.7

First, the call back to a previous podcast where we did touch on hydration and looked at a study that observed numerous beverages and their hydration qualities. And they even assigned it a little quality rating on a particular index. And they found that low ABV so low alcohol by volume beer. And this was pretty low 4% hydrated just as well as water.

1:58.7

But single caveat they only tested with a single beer. So again, moderation clearly is key here. My takeaway then as it is now is that beer does bear a potential to rehydrate pretty limited context, but true nonetheless.

2:13.7

Secondly, beer has minor nutritional value and also other benefits.

2:18.7

Science says and has for some time now that moderate alcohol intake is associated with lower rates of cardiovascular disease and reduce mortality. Okay. This is real. This is like two decades worth of real.

2:32.7

Also beer is greater in protein content and B vitamins than wine. And I'm not here to harp on wine. But it is the critical darling of those who indulge for so called health benefits.

2:43.7

Also beers antioxidant content is on par with and sometimes even surpasses that of wine. So take that wine. Also also one study looked at the bio functions of the phenolic compounds so that the polyphenols right what one of the things were chasing.

3:00.7

But they did it in brewers spent grains. So admittedly these are the leftovers. They're not in the beer, but they were used to make the beer.

3:06.7

And they found antioxidant anti carcinogenic anti-athrogenic the CVD that I just mentioned and anti inflammatory activities. So fake point beers and just about getting drunk. It can also be about your health real point.

3:22.7

Any oxidants and anti inflammatory are part and parcel with recovery.
