Degenerate media, coercive public education, and plummeting marriage rates have all done their part to erode the moral foundations of the family and with it the West.

But not all of the downgrades are particularly new. In fact, much of this dates back to

the Industrial Revolution, which separated the family, particularly the family as a family,

from economic productivity. Men went to factories, and in the mid-1800s, thanks to Horace Mann's

reforms, compulsory education separated children from their parents for

increasingly lengthy periods during the day. By the early 20th century, women would start making

their way into the voting booth and the workforce as well. Once the center of economics, education,

and the formation of human souls, the household became little more than a hotel room

for a few hours of evening entertainment before mothers, fathers, and children departed for their

separate endeavors once again the next morning. Because families were no longer united by shared

economic mission and vocations, the generational bonds between parents and children dissolved.

As Alan C. Carlson's written, much of the vision for a Christian America has been lost

along with these transformations. In order to understand just how far we've fallen, it's helpful

to return to the founding of our nation. As Carlson writes, nearly 400 years ago,

a band of Englishmen resolved to leave their troubled and morally corrupted homeland to create a new
