Summary

It's a wild time to be alive. We have access to more ideas, more content, more leaders, more voices, more information than anyone in history has ever had access to. And that means that we’re going to have to have wisdom to know what to listen to, which direction to go, what to take in, what to leave behind, how to discern what is really influencing us when we post, how to just clarify our own motives and how to be led by the Holy Spirit and not just be swept along by this torrent of information.

That means we need to have discernment. But discernment is more than simply avoiding bad things; discernment actually frees you to navigate the world with confidence and joy by teaching you how to recognize and choose good things. When you learn discernment and develop a taste for all that’s good, you will encounter God in remarkable new ways.

Join me and Hannah for this fascinating conversation.

Hey, friends, this is episode 108, and today I'm going to be talking with Hannah Anderson about

0:45.6

the topic of discernment. Hannah is going to help us understand what discernment is and what it

0:51.7

isn't. But maybe even more importantly than that, well, actually certainly more

0:55.9

importantly than that, she's going to remind us that our discernment doesn't save us and that

1:01.9

because God is good and because His righteousness covers us, our sanctification, our salvation,

1:09.9

and our appearance in eternity with him someday is not going to

1:15.3

come from your discerning decisions or your ability to make wise and sound judgments about what you do

1:23.5

or don't do. God is not standing back and looking to see what you do and deciding how he will

1:28.3

respond based on our success or failure of upholding the law. He is always restoring. He is always making

1:35.6

new. He knows that we will fail. And that is why he has sent his son, Jesus. So as always,

1:42.0

keep that in mind as you're listening to us, break down discernment

1:45.8

and, you know, don't look to this episode to kind of help you be more judging or discerning

1:52.9

even. Like, that's weird to even say that about an episode. Discerment's good, but we just

1:58.3

don't want to turn to it to be any sort of like hope for us because it is not Jesus.
