Another round of record unemployment.

The latest, 6.6 million more Americans filed for jobless claims last week.

That report from the Labor Department brings the total to nearly 17 million unemployment applications

in just three weeks. That's more losses than the most recent recession produced in more than two years.

And economists don't expect it to end here since stay-at-home orders aren't over yet.

Most predict by the end of the month at least 20 million people may be out of work

meaning about 15% of the nation's workforce will be out of a job. The US has not

seen this magnitude of layoffs and economic decline since the Great Depression and

it's happening quickly.

Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell said the U.S. economy is in an emergency.

So the Central Bank is taking unprecedented action.
