On one of the first episodes of Recode Decode, I spoke with Slack Engineer and former Googleer Erica Baker.

She angered Google Management when she encouraged her coworkers at the search giant

There are definitely problems with recruiting, hiring, but there's so much focus on that

that nobody really pays attention to retention, which is...

The experience. Yeah, there are a lot of women who just drop out after, I think, what is it, the seven-year mark?

Yeah, yeah. Just like, can't do it anymore. Right.

And nobody seems to focus on why that is. Right, so they focus on the pipeline.

Yeah, I had an engine of Elle Cowell, and she's like, I'm so sick of the pipeline.

I am, yeah, same. The pipeline is garbage. It's not great, but it's not bad.
