Summary

In the second episode of Reclaiming Patriotism Ken Harbaugh reflects on the role of dissent in our understanding of patriotism. Ken talks to Representative Barbara Lee who was the sole vote against the Authorization for Use of Military Force after the attacks on September 11th. Together they reflect on her decision and the courage that it took to be the only opposing vote. But first, Ken sits down with Congressman Max Rose to talk about the lessons he took away from dissenters that came before him while serving in both the military and Congress.

0:08.4	dissent. Our nation began as an act of protest and to this day patriotism cannot exist without

0:15.8	A lot of people would say patriotism may be my country right or wrong and I don't. I wouldn't

0:21.4	You're out there bully or you're not. Patriots, a lot of them they want to conquer something.

0:30.0	I'm still an American and I still love this country but I wish things would change. I mean that's
0:35.2	part of what it means to be American is to be able to voice your opinion and create change. That's

0:41.1	America's origins are rooted in dissent. We have a rich history of fighting back when our values are
0:46.8	under threat. As Mark Twain said, patriotism is supporting your country all the time and your government
