sharing another solo episode, a short talk that I gave not too long ago to a small group on the shadow sides of social media. Some of my own personal experience, the ups and the downs, the good and the bad of social media and something that I am still very much wrestling with today.

This topic is social media. And while I am so grateful that I did not have to worry about

social media when I was a teen, it did become a part of my daily life shortly after college.

And it was a confluence of events that allowed this to happen. It was the introduction of

Instagram. It was the fact that smartphones became ubiquitous and I found myself having a

smartphone in my hand every day. And simultaneously, I was competing in a sport called CrossFit,

which was growing rapidly and I was finding success there. And so I found myself making a new

Instagram account, suddenly having thousands of followers overnight and now having interest

from companies who wanted to sponsor me and ask me to talk about their

products and services on social media as well. And so you can imagine that pretty quickly this

became a part of my everyday life and a part of my livelihood. And like all of you, I was living

in this giant societal experiment as we're all figuring out how to navigate

this new thing called social media and the impact that it's having on our lives.
