That's a name that's familiar to New York Times readers. You're a long-time correspondent.

You're currently a diplomatic correspondent for a while. You were the Beijing Bureau Chief.

You also cover the Iraq War. And the reason you're here is because you have now published a book.

In fact, if I've got the scheduling right, this book is being published in the very day that this

conversation will post. And the book is called At the Edge of Empire, a Family's Reckoning with China.

It's a great book in which you kind of intertwine the story of your family history,

in particular the story of your father, who grew up in China,

with kind of a modern history of China and, you know, a presentation of current Chinese politics and so on.

So it's a great way to learn a lot about history and the current world situation.

I saw a picture that you put on Twitter of you and your father with a copy of the book.

He's now in his 90s.

This must have been very gratifying for you because the book actually has a picture of him,

a somewhat younger version of him, I would say, because it's back, this is back when he was in China, right?

Right.
