A big drop on Wall Street and a sign that could mean a recession is near.

The Dow fell around 800 points Wednesday, while the S&P 500 in Nasdack also slipped.

So here's what's going on.

The Washington Post says this all has to do with the

government bond market. Something weird happened this week. Returns on

short-term US bonds were actually better than long-term ones. Meaning the

government is now paying more to attract buyers to its two-year bond

than its 10-year note.

The key point here is that usually it's the other way around.
