The United States' trade breakthrough with China may help the nation avoid a self-inflicted recession.

Starting Wednesday for 90 days, America's tariffs on Chinese goods would be reduced to 30%, while China's levies on American imports are cut down to 10%.

Here's CNN's Matt Egan.

I talked to Moody's economist Mark Zandi, and he told me that before this agreement, he thought there was about a 60% chance of a recession in the United States this year.

He now sees a 45% chance.

Justin Wolfers also says it's about a coin flip, about 50, 50.

So yes, recession odds are coming down, but not nearly as low as you might think if you were just looking at the stock market.

The first day of Sean Dutty Combs' federal criminal trial wrapped up after prosecutors called

two witnesses. Prosecutors have shown the jury footage from a hotel in 2016, where Combs

was recorded attacking his then-girlfriend Cassie Ventura, a key witness in the trial.

L.A. police officer Israel Flores was at the Intercontinental Hotel at the time,

working security, and testified that he responded to a woman in distress and found Combs

with a, quote, devilish stare and Ventura with a purple eye.

He said Combs offered him cash, which he interpreted as a bribe.

Flores declined the money.

When Flores was cross-examined by the defense about why he didn't know Combs' facial expressions

in the incident report, he wrote at the time he said he felt it wasn't relevant.

It's part of this bigger narrative, and this is where the defense is really focused.

Is this an altercation between a couple, which they had to concede bad behavior on Combs's part? Is this an altercation between a couple who has a tumultuous 10-year relationship?
