Summary

Today's word of the day is 'legend' as in we honor the legendary coach Don Shula following the news today of him dying at the age of 90. Now let's get into Michael Jordan and The Last Dance. Kobe Bryant made an appearance in the documentary and I'm not sure how I felt about his inclusion. Hear me out first. Were you aware before seeing it Sunday night that Jordan shopped himself for a shoe brand? I wasn't. What is the cost of being Jordan fame? How do athletes handle that and their brand? With that fame comes a lot of loneliness. Talking about the infamous “Republicans buy sneakers too.” quote and what we learned from it. Cultural impact of the 1992 Dream Team. So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me about Jordan's gambling from golf to quarter tossing to casinos and how would I have treated Jordan’s Atlantic City trip. MLBeard Challenge Day 48-50: Minnesota, Phoenix, San Antonio. NFL has canceled all international games for the 2020 season. Antonio Brown this weekend posted a picture of himself wearing a Ravens uniform... will the team sign him? #waittosee ---------------------------   'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts.   Follow David on Twitter: @DavidPSamson  To watch David on CBS Sports HQ visit https://www.cbssports.com/live/ To hear more from the CBS Sports Podcast Network, visit https://www.cbssports.com/podcasts/ Learn more about your ad choices. I'm legend. That's the nothing personal word of the day. We lost a legend today. Don

0:12.6

Shula. 33 years as an NFL coach, larger than life personality here in South Florida.

0:20.4

Past away today, 90 years old, 1930 to 2020. One of the great things, I mean, I'm lucky

0:27.9

in every way. There's no doubt about that. But one of the great pleasures in all the years,

0:35.4

I was in sports in Florida. The number of times I had an opportunity to meet Don Shula over

0:41.5

the years more than a handful. Had him in the sweet for a game, had him on the field several

0:47.9

times at several charity events. He was for a legend. One of the most interesting and

0:56.3

nicest people you'll come across. Right? So you spend time, let's say meeting a bill par

1:01.9

sales, who was my coaching when I was a giant fan. So you got a chance to meet bill par

1:07.2

sales who won two Super Bowls for you. A little more ornery, a little less social, understandable.

1:15.2

But Don Shula would spend time with underprivileged kids. He'd spend time with our fans. He'd spend

1:20.6

time with people who were just so much less fortunate than he was. Understanding that he

1:25.9

was carrying with him the pleasure of being a 33 season NFL coach. The winningest coach in

1:36.0

NFL history. This is not just an ordinary coach. Two Super Bow wins, perfect season here in

1:42.0

Miami. But what he means to this community, it's a big loss. And you knew as the years had

1:48.9

passed the last few years, he was getting older, he was in a wheelchair, a motorized wheelchair,

1:53.9

he never stopped his smile, he never stopped being friendly. And what I found most interesting about

2:00.5

Don Shula is that he never had the trappings of success that many players, executives and coaches

2:07.8

have who have Super Bowl or World Series or NBA championship rings on their fingers. He wore

2:16.0

his ring as a reminder, not to himself. But for other people to get to feel as though they were

2:26.3

a champion too. And I learned ring etiquette from Don Shula. When I wear my World Series ring, I

2:34.0

let anyone hold it, I let anyone try it on, anyone take pictures. I don't keep it in a vault
