Summary

Things have been a little busy lately, so I'm rebroadcasting this episode about feeling your  baby move while working on a new episode for next week. I also wanted to re-share this episode because of new research coming out about a rise in stillbirths during the COVID-19 pandemic.

It may be the case that there have been more stillbirths during the pandemic because moms-to-be are too worried about catching COVID-19 to go to the hospital when they normally might. There have also been fewer prenatal appointments, so issues may be missed as moms get fewer checkups. Whatever the cause ultimately is, it's a great idea for you to be aware of your baby's movement, what they mean, and what to watch for.

In this episode I'm talking all about feeling your baby move and what you can expect to feel throughout your pregnancy. I also share a few ways you can monitor your baby's movement and when you should contact your doctor if your baby seems to be moving less.

So things have been crazy for me these past couple weeks, and I feel awful that I haven't had time to get new episodes ready for release.

0:17.7

So I'm feeling your baby move.

0:19.4

And the reason I want you to listen to it is because

0:22.8

there was a study from the UK that was recently published in JAMA that showed an increase in

0:30.6

stillbirths during the pandemic. And one theory was perhaps infection with COVID, but other theories were that maybe women aren't going to the hospital with decreased fetal movement because of fear of COVID infection, or maybe with reduced prenatal visits, women aren't being screened as often for issues.

Now, although it's controversial as to whether or not tracking your baby's movements

0:56.1

will always decrease stillbirth, studies have shown that a decrease in the maternal

1:02.7

perception of fetal movement may precede stillbirth. So understanding your baby's movements

1:09.6

is something you definitely should know. So check out this

1:13.9

episode on feeling your baby move and I will be back next week with a brand new episode.
