Ole Miss football is less than 40 days away.
The Rebels open official practices next week.
Ole Miss enters the 2024-25 campaign with sky-high expectations following the first 11-win season in program history. Lane Kiffin is entering his fifth season as Rebel head coach. He’s led Ole Miss to the third-best record (21-12) in the SEC over that span.
The most pressing concern in and around the Manning Center is the overall health of the roster. A number of high-profile contributors were either limited or sat out of spring practices entirely because of injury.
The Ole Miss Spirit’s Chuck Rounsaville provided an extensive update Monday night on the ‘Rebel Yell Hotline.’
“In spring, there were several players who didn’t practice because of injury. A lot of them weren’t major injuries; (the coaches) just wanted to get them 100 percent healthy,” Rounsaville said. “From what I understand, wide receiver Juice Wells is running routes now. Ulysses Bentley, running back, is practicing full steam. Micah Pettus, offensive tackle, is full-steam now. Diego Pounds, the offensive tackle from North Carolina, is ready to go. Gerquan Scott, the guard from Southern Miss, is ready to go. Jeffrey Rush, the freshman that came in here in January, is healthy now.
“Tight end Dae’Quan Wright could run routes but they kept him out of contact in spring. He’s OK. The only question mark is Princely Umanmielen. I think he’s going to be OK from his labrum surgery. The latest I’ve gotten on him (is) two or three weeks ago they were concerned he may not be ready for August.
“But the latest I’ve gotten is he should be. SHOULD be.”
