Friends today is International Women's Day, a time where people all over the world observe

and honor all that the women's rights movement has achieved and bring attention to all that

still needs to be done for gender equality, reproductive rights, and the end of violence

against women. When I think about celebrating women in my life, I was actually just talking

gosh, I can't even remember who I was talking to, but it was in the past day or so. I've

mentioned this person in different conversations, interviews, I even wrote about her in the

forward of Richard Pryor's reissued autobiography and it's my assistant principal from high school.

I shudder to think of where I would be in this world today. If I did not have the guidance

and care and attention from her, I went through a lot of struggles as a kid, a lot, and I

know many people do, but I just happen to be so lucky to have this person. Of course,
