Summary
In this shortcast, Kerry explores images that we can relate to that help us see how we need to be humbled and built up, and how we need to let God prevail in our lives more than anything else.
You can find a chart correlating the chapters in Jeremiah the the historical chapters of 2 Kings, and a chart putting all of the chapters of Jeremiah in chronological order (as best we can) at Kerry's website: https://www.outofthedust.org/old-testament-aids/.
Our gratitude to our sponsor, Lisa Spice, and to Rich Nicholls, who composed and plays the music for the podcast.

| 0:00.0 | Hello and welcome to the scriptures of a real podcast. |
| 0:12.0 | This is the podcast where we talk about elements of the scriptures that have become real |
| 0:16.2 | or help them become more real to us because we believe the more real they are, the more we can draw power |
| 0:22.1 | out of them and apply them to our lives, and we need that power. I'm your host, Kerry Mielstein, |
| 0:27.0 | and in this short cast, I'm just going to address a few elements from a few of the chapters of |
| 0:31.3 | the first part of the book of Jeremiah, some of those verses that have spoken most to me |
| 0:35.8 | and that have images or ideas that I've really |

| 0:53.4 | quite a few things regarding Isaiah's call, |
| 0:55.4 | but there's one thing we didn't touch on that I would like to talk about. |
| 0:59.4 | So we've spoken there in Isaiah chapter one about Isaiah, or sorry, Jeremiah. |
| 1:05.4 | We spoke in there about Jeremiah's call and Jeremiah being nervous about this and feeling he was a child. |
| 1:11.6 | But we didn't touch on a couple of my favorite verses that I think are really profound. |
| 1:16.6 | And this is verse 9 and 10, especially 10. |
| 1:20.6 | So the Lord, then the Lord put forth his hand and touched my, meaning Jeremiah, |
| 1:24.6 | touched my mouth, and the Lord said unto me, behold, I put my words in my mouth. |
| 1:29.2 | So he is giving Jeremiah the things that Jeremiah should say. And he's going to explain to it what it is, |
| 1:34.7 | explain to him what it is in verse 10. See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, |
| 1:42.1 | to root out and to pull down and to destroy and to throw down to build |
| 1:47.8 | and to plant. So he's mixing some agricultural and some construction metaphors here. But note that the |
| 1:53.5 | first set is all about tearing things down. So rooting out, this is when you try and get rid of |
