Summary

On today's episode of The Living Easy Podcast, I had the incredible opportunity to hear my brother-in-law's story of what it was like to be raised in a cult.

He discusses how his childhood was impacted, the lies he believed and the bizarre patterns and belief systems that were shared in his home. We talk about how his life has been impacted by his childhood experiences, what his relationships look like now and how his faith was affected. Don't miss this one!

Today's conversation, holy cow, I literally just ended it with my brother, Matt Carlson.

0:13.2

He is sharing his story that I've only heard bits and pieces of, he's my brother-in-law,

0:18.4

but I've only heard bits and pieces of his story growing up and he was raised in a cult.

0:23.2

He lived a very normal life and then his mom and aunt got kind of sucked into this ideology of

0:30.7

cult life, then spirit life that led to about 12 years of isolation and domination,

0:39.6

controlling behavior, spirit conversations, and more that were all extrabiblical.

0:46.0

So they used the Bible as their foundation for this cult as most do and then added to scripture.

0:52.9

So his story is one that is emotional. It is heart-wrenching, funny and honest about the things

0:59.7

that he went through as a child, the restrictions that he had and what God has done in his heart,

1:06.7

the healing process, after that. He is the most normal dude ever. I mean, he's funny and crazy

1:12.1

and gritty, but he is so loved by everyone. He is brilliant. He is kind and he has not let this

1:19.5

ruin him. So it is a story of pain and hardship and confusion as a child and just some of the most

1:27.0

bizarre things and perspectives that make absolutely no sense, but also a story of healing and of

1:34.0

allowing God to use that for good and not being a victim of his circumstances. So I hope you have

1:40.6

a chance to listen to the whole thing. It's worth it. We talk even at the end about kind of the world

1:46.0

right now and how it is getting into a cult mindset with the polarization and inconsistencies

1:52.6

and beliefs and politics and how really we are navigating this world without a heart for God

1:59.2

and a heart for others. So listen through the whole thing. If you guys enjoy this episode,

2:03.6

please take a second to share it. If you haven't rated and reviewed on iTunes yet, it would mean

so so much if you could do that. And if you enjoy this conversation, if you have friends who

like to watch Netflix documentaries about this type of stuff, it would mean the world if you
